International Business and Management for Mergers-myassignmenthelp
Question: Discuss about theInternational Business and Management for Mergers. Answer: External factors were in favor of Kelon to switch to rural and expand their business of appliances there. After the 1998 housing reform by the Chinese government, there were advancements in the real estate markets. Due to the rapid growth in the market, it was obvious that increased number of houses will be built within the coming years. This will potentially produce a huge demand for air conditioners and Refrigerators in the rural and urban market. Technological advancements in power generation and supply also stabilized the lives of the rural peoples. Electricity was now available for more hours than before which led to increased demand for the electrical appliances. Similar to urban areas, people in rural areas were also looking for a betterment of their living standards and a sophisticated life with basic needs like refrigerators and air conditioners. It is an unquestionable fact that the rural market was growing at a brisk rate, so there were very favorable circumstances for Kelon to grow as a company in rural areas as well (Christine, Schmidt, Schneider Stoll, 2017). As Kelon has diversified itself and has been serving more products than before, it was important for Kelon to strategize their plan and expand its business. By focusing more on Merger and Acquisition rather than internal growth, Kelon could expand its business more than ever (Dong, Dingquan and Jiahui, 2016). Increasing the production capacity to equate the supply with the demand of the people should be the priority. Also, not only this, Kelon should be more marketing oriented rather than being a production-oriented firm. A reasonable pricing strategy is to be formulated for the people of rural areas so they can opt out for the products more and more and be a true and loyal customer to the brand (Biao, 2014). As it is clear from the fact that Kelon is already a leader in the field of appliances, it should ensure that the product's brand loyalty, premium quality products, and value-added services are up to the mark that would help its business to expand in the rural areas as well. Being there for about three and a half decade into the Electronic Appliance market, Kelon already had a brand name and trust in both urban and rural areas, so it is important that Kelon should target rural market with its existing brand rather than switch into a new brand. Existing customer, as well as a new buyer, will trust and buy a product of a company who is into the market for a long duration of time than that of an amateur company (Zhang, Zheng Zhou, 2016). It is accountable from the fact that, in 1998, in terms of market share Kelon was listed in the top 10 firms in AC market. Also, it was considered as a high-end brand with a premium product quality. So it was important for a company such as Kelon to use its current brand value of the urban market and expand itself into the rural market rather than opting out for a new brand name. Anna Karenina Characters And The Life Novel Essay Example For Students
Anna Karenina: Characters And The Life Novel Essay Anna Karenina: Characters and the Life NovelBy examining the character list, one immediately notices the valueTolstoy places on character. With one hundred and forty named characters andseveral other unnamed characters, Tolstoy places his central focus in AnnaKarenina on the characters. He uses their actions and behavior to develop theplot and exemplify the major themes of the novel. In contrast to FlaubertsMadame Bovary, Tolstoy wishes to examine life as it really is. Both novels haverelationships and adultery as a central theme. However, Tolstoy gives us a muchmore lifelike representation in Anna Karenina by creating characters, bothmajor and minor, that contribute to the sense of realism. The most striking feature of Tolstoys minor characters is that althoughthey may only appear briefly, they still possess a sense of lifelikeness. Whena character is introduced, Tolstoy provides the reader with details of thecharacters appearance and actions that give a sense of realism. For example, the waiter that Stiva and Levin encounter at their dinner, although a flatcharacter is definitely presented in a manner which allows him to have a senseof lifelikeness and fullness. From the speech patterns the waiter uses to thedescription of the fit of his uniform, one is presented with the details thatallow the waiter to contribute to the novel in means beyond simply the presenceof a minor character. His description and actions provide the novel with asense of real life. Another way in which Tolstoy gives the minor character a sense of lifeis by making them unpredictable. One sees this in the character of Ryabinin. When initially discussed, the reader is told that upon conclusion of business,Ryabinin will always say positively and finally (p161). However uponconclusion of the sale of the land, Ryabinin does not use his usual tag. This tag would normally be characteristic of the flat, minor charactersuch as Ryabinin. However, Tolstoy wishes to add to the lifelikeness of even his minorcharacters and allows them to behave as one would expect only major, roundcharacters. The detail Tolstoy gives to all of his characters, including theminor characters, contributes to the realism of both the novel and thecharacters. Perhaps the most realistic of Tolstoys major characters is KonstantinLevin. Throughout the novel, the reader witnesses the trials of Levins lifeand his response to them. Unlike Flaubert, Tolstoy reveals Levin in a mannerwhich gives him a sense of roundedness and lifelikeness. On his quest formeaning in his life, Levin is essentially a realist, just as Tolstoy wishes tobe in writing Anna Karenina. We first encounter Levin when he arrives in Moscow to propose to KittyShtcherbatsky. When Kitty refuses his proposal, Levin has been defeated in thefirst step he feels is necessary for personal satisfaction. After the refusal,Levin returns again to the county in hopes of finding personal satisfaction inthe country life style. He turns to farming, mowing with the peasants and othersuch manual work to fill his time, all the while still searching for meaning inhis life. This desire for meaning remains unfulfilled until he finds happinessand a sense of family happiness in his marriage to Kitty. However, even in this state of happiness, Levin must face tragedy. Soonafter the marriage, Levins sickly brother, Nicolai Dmitrich Levin, is dying oftuberculosis and Levin must confront his death. This death adds to Levinssense of the reality of life, realizing that life now not only centers on livingbut on not living. This event, combined with his previous search for meaning, brings Levin to the conclusion that one must live for their soul rather that fora gratification through things such as marriage and family. .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21 , .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21 .postImageUrl , .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21 , .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21:hover , .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21:visited , .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21:active { border:0!important; } .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21:active , .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21 .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u2751bb569e8f69154472d8fd4f892b21:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Odysseus Essay ThesisIt is this epiphany that gives Levin his sense of roundedness. Levin hasgrown from the beginning of the novel when his search for happiness was centeredon personal fulfillment through marriage. By the conclusion of the novel Levinhas reached a sense of personal satisfaction as well as personal salvationthrough his realization that love not only entails physical love, as that forhis wife, but also in a love of God and living for God. In contrast to the growth that Levin experiences is the stagnation ofthe life of the title character Anna Karenina. The Ancient Mayan City of Mayapan
The Ancient Mayan City of Mayapan Mayapan was a Maya city which thrived during the Postclassic Period. Itââ¬â¢s located in the heart of Mexicoââ¬â¢s Yucatan Peninsula, not far to the southeast of the city of Merida. The ruined city is now an archaeological site, open to the public and popular with tourists. The ruins are known for the imposing circular tower of the Observatory and the Castle of Kukulcan, an impressive pyramid. History According to legend Mayapan, was founded by the great ruler Kukulcan in 1250 A.D. following the decline of the mighty city of Chichen Itza. The city rose to prominence in the northern section of the Maya lands after the great city-states in the south (such as Tikal and Calakmul) had gone into steep decline. During the late Postclassic Era (1250-1450 A.D.), Mayapan was the cultural and political center of the waning Maya civilization and had great influence upon the smaller city-states that surrounded it. During the height of its power, the city was home to approximately 12,000 inhabitants. The city was destroyed and abandoned in about 1450 A.D. The Ruins The ruin complex at Mayapan is a sprawling collection of buildings, temples, palaces, and ceremonial centers. There are about 4,000 buildings spread out over an area of about four square kilometers. The architectural influence of Chichen Itza is plainly evident in the impressive buildings and structures at Mayapan. The central plaza is of the greatest interest to historians and visitors: it is home to the Observatory, the Palace of Kukulcan and the Temple of the Painted Niches. The Observatory The most striking building at Mayapan is the circular tower of the observatory. The Maya were talented astronomers. They were particularly obsessed with the movements of Venus and other planets, as they believed they were Gods going back and forth from the Earth to the underworld and the celestial planes. The circular tower is built on a base which was divided into two semi-circular areas. During the citys heyday, these rooms were covered in stucco and painted. The Castle of Kukulcan Known to archaeologists simply as ââ¬Å"structure Q162,â⬠this impressive pyramid dominates Mayapanââ¬â¢s central plaza. It is likely an imitation of the very similar Temple of Kukulcan at Chichen Itza. It has nine tiers and stands about 15 meters (50 feet) tall. Part of the temple collapsed at some point in the past, revealing an older, smaller structure within. At the foot of the Castle is ââ¬Å"Structure Q161,â⬠also known as the Room of the Frescoes. There are several painted murals there: a precious collection, considering those very few examples of painted Mayan art remain. The Temple of Painted Niches Forming a triangle across the main plaza with the Observatory and Kukulcanââ¬â¢s Castle, the Temple of Painted Niches is home to more painted murals. The murals here show five temples, which are painted around five niches. The niches symbolize the entrance to each of the painted temples. Archaeology at Mayapan The first account of foreign visitors to the ruins was the 1841 expedition of John L. Stephens and Frederick Catherwood, who took a cursory look at many ruins including Mayapan. Other early visitors included noted Mayanist Sylvanus Morley. The Carnegie Institution launched an investigation of the site in the late 1930s which resulted in some mapping and excavations. Important work was done in the 1950s under the direction of Harry E.D. Pollock. Current Projects Much work is currently being done at the site: most of it is under the direction of the PEMY (Proyecto Economico de Mayapan) institution, supported by several organizations including the National Geographic Society and SUNY Albany. Mexicoââ¬â¢s National Anthropology and History Institute has also done much work there, especially restoring some of the more important structures for tourism. Importance of Mayapan Mayapan was a very important city during the final centuries of the Maya civilization. Founded just as the great city-states of the Maya Classic Era were dying in the south, first Chichen Itza and then Mayapan stepped into the void and became the standard-bearers of the once-mighty Maya Empire. Mayapan was a political, economic and ceremonial hub for the Yucatan. The city of Mayapan is of particular importance to researchers, as it is believed that one or more of the four remaining Maya codices may well have originated there. Visiting the Ruins A visit to the city of Mayapan makes for a great day trip from Merida, which is less than an hour away. Its open daily and theres plenty of parking. A guide is recommended. THe Crucible - Article Example They begin dancing and performing their rituals but are surprised when Reverend Parris comes to them. Reverend Parris is the father of one of the girls, Betty, who is involved in witchcraft. The girls scream and run while Betty and one other girl fall into a mysterious maniac sleep. Soon begins the game, where allegations of witchcraft are being thrown around every which way by a group of girls led by Abigail Williams (Winona Ryder). The twist is that these girls have actually been dealing with the devil themselves. Reverend John Hale, an authority on witchcraft, is called by Reverend Parris to investigate what is going on. Abigails accusations take on a more personal agenda when she points her accusing finger at the wife (Joan Allen) of John Proctor (Daniel Day-Lewis), a farmer with whom Abigail had a torrid affair. John had confessed it to his wife Elizabeth, and their relationship has consequently suffered. Abigail is still in love with John, so she tells the court that Elizabeth Proctor is a witch. Of those accused are Rebeccaââ¬â¢s Nurse and Martha Corey. Then the police come to arrest Elizabeth on the grounds of supernaturally sticking a needle in Abigails stomach. Everybody is fooled by the girls, including the judge Thomas Danforth. Proctor tries to counter the girls by producing Mary Warren, his servant, who is willing to admit the girls lied. However, all the girls accuse Mary of witchcraft, and she eventually accuses Proctor to save her skin. By this point, Reverend John Hale realizes the corruption and injustice of the court and endeavors to defend Proctor. However, the girls prevail and Proctor is promptly arrested for witchcraft. Hale who has lost all hopes of justice advices the prisoners to plead guilty to witchcraft, so that they can at least live. Proctor signs a confession, but retracts it when he realizes that judge Danforth intends to nail the confession to the church door. He fears that his name will be ruined along with

Death According to Socrates and Roland Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Death According to Socrates and Roland - Essay Example A majority of sixty voted to convict Socrates, and he jokingly offered to pay a fine of 100 drachmae, a fifth of his property. The prosecutor was not happy with this and pushed for the death, a penalty of which the jury agreed by a margin of 360 to 140. Although his supporters encouraged him to flee, Socrates did not and would not repent for his actions professing that he would rather die in his own manner than live like those who had condemned him. Socrates stated, "I say, gentlemen, to those who voted to kill me, that vengeance will come upon you immediately after my death, a vengeance much harder to bear than that which you took in killing me" (Plato 40). In essence, Socrates believed his death would teach others to hold fast to their convictions, even in the face of condemnation by an unjust society. The Song of Roland is touted as the oldest known major work of French literature. It is written as an epic poem depicting heroic deeds that took place in 778 A.D., when Charlemagne's retreating army was attacked by pagan armies. Roland was an army soldier, said to be a nephew of Charlemagne. The tale speaks of betrayal and revenge within Charlemagne's army, with Roland and his fellow soldier Oliver being left with only an army of twelve peers when thousands of Franks attack. Oliver pleads to Roland to retreat, however, Roland states, "Hold the field, let us not be beaten! The French say: 'A curse on the man who runs away! Until death itself not one of us will fail you'" (Merwin 35). Roland and his peers are successful in battle after a bloody fight which includes slicing off limbs. Roland eventually suffers a severe injury to his temple, not through battle but by blowing his horn at the urging of a comrade to call Charlemagne's troops. "Count Roland, in pain and anguish, and in grea t sorrow, blows a blast on his ivory horn, and the bright blood flows from his mouth, and the veins burst on his forehead, but the sound of the horn swells and mounts" (Merwin 55). Roland continues to fight, despite his injury, tries to unsuccessfully break his sword, and then "His brains have begun to seep out through his ears. He prays for the peers, asking God to summon them to His presence, and then for himself he calls upon the angel Gabriel.appearRoland is dead and God has taken his soul into heaven" (Merwin 69 & 73). It is clear that Roland fought a valiant fight and his honor and morality would not allow him to surrender even in the face of impossible odds. Therefore, Roland believed that his death would teach others to never give up on beliefs and values, even if faced with certain demise and destruction. How Does Socrates' and Roland's Beliefs Reflect the Values of Athens and Medieval Europe Socrates' beliefs do not appear to reflect the values of ancient Athens. He was not satisfied with accepting the mores of the day and questioned the influential figures of the time, whose reputations for wisdom and virtue he debunked through his questioning. Socrates also taught his students this method of inquiry, which greatly upset the established order and moral values of Athens. Socrates criticized democracy, including the local voting process, yet he also fought and argued for obedience to local
